"Dona Nobis Pacem" - choral music for a peaceful world
The Mainz chamber choir Amici Canendi opens its 2025 autumn concert program with an urgent call for peace. Under the direction of Elisabeth Stoll, two important works of sacred choral music will be performed: Dona Nobis Pacem by Latvian composer Peteris Vasks and the Mass in D major by Antonin Dvorak.
Vasks' Dona Nobis Pacem unfolds the plea for peace in moving musical language - a theme that seems more topical than ever in the face of global crises. Dvorak's Mass, a radiant work full of melodic beauty and confident spirituality, forms the second part of the program. The original version from 1887 for choir and organ will be performed - originally composed for the ceremonial inauguration of a small castle chapel, the size of which did not allow for an orchestral version. It was not until five years later that Dvorak arranged the mass for large orchestra.
In addition to the choir, the organist Sebastian Munsch is responsible for the sound. The musical direction is in the hands of Elisabeth Stoll. The chamber choir Amici Canendi, founded in 2016, has developed a diverse repertoire under her direction and impresses with its expressive sound and precise interpretation.
The concerts will take place on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 7 pm in the Johanniskirche Frankfurt-Bornheim and on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at 7 pm in the Karmeliterkirche Mainz.
