Ainārs Rubiķis conducts one of Peter Tchaikovsky's most popular works in concert at the Kassel Music Days: the Serenade for Strings was already loved by the audience and musicians at the premiere in 1882. Great emotions also characterize De profundis, in which the Lithuanian composer Raminta Šerkšnytė makes the human fluctuation between euphoria and disappointment palpable. Contrasts between lamentation, toccata and chorale allow the wondrous organ in St. Martin's Church to merge with the sounds of the state orchestra in the concert by British composer Kenneth Leighton.
