Ricardo Volkert & Ensemble transport the audience into a magical and poetic soundscape of flamenco, folk songs, and set-to-music poetry from Andalusia and Latin America with Spanish guitar, cello, and voice.
The settings of Spanish-language poets of the 20th century, Spanish folk songs and flamenco music allow the listener to enter a magical and poetic world of love and death, trust and betrayal, peace and war. The settings are the sea, the mountains, the alleyways and taverns of Andalusia and also the tropical world of the Caribbean. Some poets were victims of the Spanish Civil War (Antonio Machado, Garcia Lorca) or lived as refugees in exile (Ramón Jiménez, Rafael Alberti, Pablo Neruda). From the magical imagery of Spanish and Latin American poetry, the three artists conjure up an intoxicating soundscape of Spanish guitar, violoncello and sung poetry.
Carmen López grew up in San Fernando, a town on the Atlantic coast in the province of Cádiz (Andalusia). In her workshops for women, she combines flamenco dance and singing with meditation, closeness to nature and life issues. As a solo artist, she brings her program Encouraging Concerts to the stage www.carmen-lopez.com
Ricardo Volkert is a multiple winner of international song competitions and has been performing at home and abroad (Brazil, Spain, Austria, Italy) since 1990. He calls the landscape of Cabo de Gata near the Andalusian city of Almería his "2nd home". Since his childhood, he has spent part of the year in this region on the Mediterranean, which is rich in myths, legends and stories. His settings of Spanish and Latin American poetry have attracted a great deal of attention. www.ricardo-volkert.de
