Susa Berivan
Berlin singer-songwriter Susa Berivan has played her way from street music to international stages. Her melancholic songs reveal a depth that is never just sad, but always carried with a life-affirming musical joy - especially in Berivan's live concerts. Inspired by a host of great artists - including Billie Holiday, Tanita Tikaram, Tracy Chapman, Björk, John Lee Hooker and Ofra Haza - Susa Berivan has found a unique style that combines deeply rooted influences with her own eclectic experimentation. Her music is genre-fluid and always remains deeply emotional.
Susa Berivan has supported Georgian jazz sensation Nino Katamadze, French alternative band Moriarty, sung backing vocals for numerous acts, played electric guitar for Jemek Jemowit/Zygmunt Blask and sung hot jazz with members of the Syncopation Orchestra.
Her solo shows in smaller clubs - all alone with just a guitar - are hypnotic. Sometimes Berivan plays just a drum or two shakers while her voice floats in the long reverb, taking the audience on a rich musical journey. More recently, Berivan has found a musical companion with whom she expands her live sound even further and creates an even more multi-faceted experience. Gigi Guillottini accompanies her on bass, drums and harmonica and together they play new songs that also explore new linguistic territories: Having previously sung in English, some of Berivan's new releases now feature her poetic lyrics in German.
