Kostprobe: Ein Volksfeind

Introduction and rehearsal visit. If you would like to know what to expect from our new productions and upcoming concerts before the premiere, the taster sessions are the right place for you. They offer all interested parties the opportunity to get an insight into our program in advance - free of charge! This time: "An Enemy of the People", a play by Henrik Ibsen, which premieres on November 15 in the Kleines Haus of the Stadttheater.

About the play:

Spa doctor Dr. Stockmann discovers that the spa's water is contaminated and poses a health threat. When she wants to make the fact public, she initially meets with great interest from the press, but also fierce resistance from the mayor, who is also her sister, as the spa is the town's most important source of income. Fearing financial losses, suddenly nobody wants to hear about the environmental and health problems. Stockmann holds a meeting and insults all those who do not want to follow her to such an extent that she is now considered an "enemy of the people".

To this day, Ibsen's play is a prime example of how moral agitation beyond facts influences politics and how a society that puts the rights of the majority first abandons the foundations of democracy.
