Upgrading, top-down redistribution and the austerity policies of the federal and state governments are putting cultural institutions and artists under pressure. The states of Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia in particular are axing cultural budgets, but culture nationwide is also being asked to prove its legitimacy.
In the third episode of Culture & Struggle in the Salon of Haus 73, author and host Olivier David talks to Lisa Mangold, ver.di trade union secretary for art and culture, about the strategies and struggles of independent artists and the role of the trade union.
