Kulturwochen Eritrea | Eröffnung - Lesung und Ethics Disco mit Yirgalem Fisseha Mebrahtu und Kalle Aldis Laar

In the organizer's words:

We are delighted to open the Eritrea Culture Weeks. We will be welcomed by Kiel's city mayor Bettina Aust and Marie-Louise Petersen-Scharff from the Forum for Migrants.
Afterwards, Eritrean journalist, poet and author Yirgalem Fisseha Mebrahtu will read from her book "I am alive" in Tigrinya. After six years of imprisonment in Eritrea, she managed to escape and found a new voice in exile in Germany, which has attracted worldwide attention. Her first volume of poetry ኣለኹ (I Am Alive) was published in Tigrinya in 2019; the poems were written during and after her imprisonment. The German translation was published by Wunderhorn Verlag in 2022. The reading will be moderated by Kalle Aldis Laar, who will also read the German versions of the texts.
In the second part of the evening, Kalle Aldis Laar invites you on a musical journey to Eritrea with his Ethics Disco. He brings along rarely heard recordings from his personal sound archive, the Temporary Soundmuseum, which he compiles live. We will hear authentic sounds that make the diversity and liveliness of the Eritrean music scene audible. We look forward to an inspiring evening with you.
