L.A. Guns: The glam metal and hard rock epigones live in Germany!
Four shows in November in Hamburg, Munich, Nuremberg and Bochum This much is clear: the L.A. Guns, whose legend began on the Sunset Strip over four decades ago, are one of the most influential bands between glam, hard rock and hairspray. Countless formations have taken their sound and public appearance as a model, and to this day they are one of the central bands of a shrill, colorful version of hard rock that has fans across all generations.
However, it is equally clear that few bands have such an eventful history as these warriors, who are currently traveling the world as a quintet. Hardly any other band has had so many line-up changes, with several dozen musicians coming and going over the decades. Even the two heads of this visually and musically captivating troupe, guitarist Tracii Guns and singer Phil Lewis, left the group at times for other formations. Tracii Guns, for example, left the band he founded shortly after its formation to form a hard rock band called Guns N' Roses with the band's first singer, a certain Axl Rose - only to return to his main band shortly afterwards.
The good news of all these trials and tribulations, however, is that the line-up has remained unusually constant for six years now and, as a result, the L.A. Guns are currently experiencing (at least) a third spring. This is reflected in an unprecedented level of productivity: since 2017, a new L.A. Guns album has been released every two years, three in the last four years alone. The current one, entitled "Leopard Skin", is now the occasion for a world tour that began in spring 2025 and will finally take the band back to Europe this coming fall. Between November 9 and 13, they will also be playing four German shows in Hamburg, Munich, Nuremberg and Bochum. What can you expect? Well, rousing hard rock riffs and juicy grooves alternating with the high, falsetto-like vocals that are a trademark of Hairspray Metal. Crisp songs, performed by old warhorses who are now perfectly attuned to each other and who simply know how to put on a good show. Some reviews of their US shows last year state that the current line-up, which consists of second guitarist Ace Van Johnson, bassist Johnny Martin and live drummer Shawn Duncan alongside Guns and Lewis, is probably the best this band has seen in its 43 years of existence. So it will be exciting to see what's in store for Germany in November. Great hard rock entertainment can be promised in any case.
