For just over two years, the research vessel METEOR sailed the South Atlantic on behalf of the "Notgemeinschaft der Deutschen Wissenschaft" and the Reichsmarine. During the unstable period of the Weimar Republic, the expedition not only aimed to explore this area comprehensively for the first time, but was also linked to political and social agendas. Using historical photographs, ship models and objects, we trace the expedition - from its planning and progress to its impact on marine research today.
