In her second feature-length film, British-Argentinian artist Jessica Sarah Rinland watches dedicated animal keepers at work in various zoological gardens, reserves and reintroduction stations in Argentina. She shows how they try to invent a common language, how a mutual bond is created that transcends the imagined boundary between the species. Again and again we see hands reaching out, feeding, holding, healing, caring. Without omitting the colonial roots, the administrative and architectural details of these prison-like structures, the main focus is on the tender moments of encounter between humans and animals and the work of the often overlooked animal caretakers who form the foundation of these institutions.

A quiet, haunting, in some moments utopian film about empathy, work and the fragile balance between human care and animal freedom.

As a supporting film, we are showing AUDIO Y EL CAIMÁN: Audio, a farmer from rural Venezuela, believes that a giant alligator lives in his pond. With the help of his family, he is determined to prove its existence, as his friends do not believe him.
