The five-piece French band Lazuli embodies prog rock with world music influences - mystical, lyrical, progressive, rocking, enchanting.
Anyone who has experienced Lazuli's incredible musical mixture live is bound to fall for it. Elements of progressive rock, chanson, folk and world music meet the most incredible sounds and violent percussion thunderstorms. There are not so many categories that Lazuli's music could be pigeonholed into. And for those who do need comparisons for this incomparable music, the description "King Crimson meets Peter Gabriel" might provide an approximate yet inadequate explanation.
Lazuli also uses an unusual set of instruments: marimba and vibraphone are already very rare representatives on rock stages and yet these instruments are not as special as the strange stringed instrument called "Leode", which Lazuli developed themselves and of which there is only this one example in the world. The band's sound is thus enriched by a complete, previously unheard sound cosmos.
The upcoming tour is entitled "Être et ne plus être" (meaning "To be and no longer to be"), which will be released on January 30, 2026. The band once again describes the essence of the album in their typical way:
"Step by step, case by case, one day in darkness, another in openness, upside down, tossed back and forth by the twists and turns of a rollercoaster ride, we strummed guitars, scratched pen on paper, built, deconstructed and rebuilt; we spent time and didn't see it pass - hours of exploring, doubting, wandering, encountering our monsters and chimeras, ascending from gravity into heavenly spaces, euphoria and melancholy, skill and clumsiness, searching for our paths or being lost on the edge, balancing on the brink, filled with certainties or leaving our fate to chance ... what chaos! All this indeed looks like life, like so many seeds sown in the micro-grooves ... and twelve songs are born. Once again, here is the fruit of our collective womb, a bit of organized noise interspersed with sighs and silences, and finally a record to hang up..."
The concerts that Lazuli have played in Europe so far have left audiences astonished and completely amazed (or disenchanted) and the critics have been full of praise. After seeing them at the Night of the Prog Festival, ex-Marillion frontman "FISH" spontaneously and enthusiastically took the band on tour as a support act.
The band has long since outgrown its status as an insider tip. They have made an excellent name for themselves among a discerning and appreciative audience. Lazuli are a band for curious people. Anyone who gets involved with this music will be rewarded a thousand times over for their openness.
