Philippe Quesne is one of the most important French theater makers. In his new work, he brings together a small, slightly eccentric community that questions the role of art in everyday life with humor and melancholy. "Le Paradoxe de John" is a subtle play about loneliness, community and the magic of the everyday. In it, Philippe Quesne picks up on one of the first plays that enchanted audiences in a lasting way: in 2007, "L'Effet de Serge" portrayed a lonely man who organizes small shows for his circle of friends on Sundays and invites them into his unique and fragile fantasy world. Now it's time to set up an art gallery together - and all the beautifully weird art has to be invented at the same time. A humorous and poetic universe of animated objects, a pianola, foam sculptures and ambiguous laminate is created on stage. The piece once again explores the place of art in everyday life, while musical and visual inventions meet the poetically idiosyncratic texts of author Laura Vazquez. Between atmospheric effects and absurd situations, a theater of proximity is created that brings together people, ghostly beings and objects in a common composition and emphasizes the necessity of the artistic act, however small it may be.
