STAGE off LIMITS

The HMZ trio, led by Canadian gambist Pierre Yves Martel and the two Cologne musicians Philip Zoubek and Carl Ludwig Hübsch, celebrated its premiere in 2012. Over the course of several international tours, the three musicians have developed a music that is both transparent and mysterious. Every note seems to be precisely pitched and the individual voices are impressively intertwined.
The advanced playing techniques of the three musicians create such a musical variety in their interplay that, despite many quiet passages and pauses, it is far from being an anemic reductionist exercise. The Vienna-based violinist Tiziana Bertoncini, whose precise and pointed playing gives the trio fresh impetus, opens up the sound palette.
