As convict 24601, Jean Valjean spent years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread for his starving family. When he is released on parole in 1815, he encounters a brutal environment that stigmatizes him as a criminal. In order to start a new life, Valjean goes into hiding and from then on is hunted mercilessly by police inspector Javert. Having become wealthy, he frees Cosette, the daughter of the worker Fantine, from the clutches of the unscrupulous Thénardiers and takes her into his care. Years later, the two get caught up in the Parisian June Uprising of 1832, which takes a dramatic turn in the lives of all the protagonists ...
