A working-class town in North Wales. Helen is in her late 30s and single. By day she cares for her ex-husband's mother, by night she earns money as a packer in a chicken factory. Helen's dull everyday life is shaken up when the long-lost Joanne, her secret crush from her youth, suddenly reappears. The two friends from the past get to know each other again and embark on a flirtation. And in one fell swoop, Helen's old zest for life is back! But then Joanna's past catches up with her - and Helen's present. The two women are determined to fight, sing and dance for their love!
With humor, overwhelming working-class charm and a great deal of affection for the characters, Janis Pugh tells a story about love, female self-empowerment and the power of community in her musical "Chuck Chuck Baby". To an enchanting soundtrack by Neil Diamond, Minnie Riperton and others, not only do the chicken feathers fly through the air, but so do the big emotions.
