Class and social status permeate our entire lives: they shape our values and feelings, influence friendships and relationships, shape our tastes, lifestyle, profession and financial opportunities. A social issue that is omnipresent.
Hanno Sauer explores the question of where our ideas of class and status come from, how they structure our society and how many classes there actually are. In a vivid and engaging way, he shows how current scientific findings are fundamentally changing our understanding of social inequality and social coexistence.
Hanno Sauer is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the Department of Philosophy & Religious Studies at Utrecht University, where he teaches ethics, metaethics and political philosophy. Among his highly acclaimed non-fiction books on morality and social inequality, "Class. The Emergence of Above and Below" was nominated for the Tractatus Prize.
