When curative education was still a completely new concept, 60 boys with mental disabilities were sent to a castle where they were to be given a home and a chance. But after 1945, there were no guidelines. At a time when the inhuman attitudes of National Socialism still linger everywhere, it seems almost impossible for the motivated, open-hearted Martha to create space and hope for the boys, who eke out a miserable existence at the castle. However, the young pediatric nurse and her friend believe in humanity and in the boys. They give them a voice and do not give up. But the power structures they have to come up against seem endless.
