In four volumes of diaries, Anne Truitt reflected on her everyday life as an artist, teacher, child, divorced woman and grandmother. The books provide an insight into the constant development of a personality and the intellectual background to her art. Although you have never met her in person, after reading them you feel as if you have found a friend in her. The texts are also incredibly entertaining: they are like a soap opera in which intellectual greats of the time make their appearances. If you like, you can also read them as a life guide and self-care template. Truitt addresses loneliness, motherhood and moral issues. Writers such as Rachel Kushner and Audrey Niffenegger felt inspired by these texts. On this evening, Anne Truitt will be introduced through her texts.

Philipp Holstein is head of the feature section of the Rheinische Post. He heads the "Text and Music" specialization at the Robert Schumann University and teaches at the Heinrich Heine University. He regularly presents new literary publications in his event format "Eine Stunde Gegenwart".
