Helge Timmerberg brought gonzo journalism to Germany and celebrates travel like a rock'n'roll tour. He is considered a solo entertainer on stage and in his lyrics, as he is open about the fact that he breaks all the rules of the world, journalism and love, but is irritatingly successful in doing so.

Now he has been dreaming of the great overland journey ever since his father bequeathed him his car ten years ago, with the last words "Bon Voyage".

After all, what could be more spontaneous and independent than having your own wheels? What could be more robust and stylish than an old Mercedes sedan? What is a more relaxed way to get to your destination? Helge Timmerberg sets off on a relaxed tour through Switzerland via Italy, France and Spain to North Africa. But he breaks two of his rules on the very first stage: "Never drive for more than four hours a day!", "Avoid the dark!". And so what was meant to be a pleasure trip turns into a road trip with obstacles, on which the author gets to know himself in a whole new way. He is thwarted and robbed, his old Benz becomes a retreat and the journey alone becomes solitary confinement on four wheels ...
