Literarischer Abend mit musikalischer Begleitung: »Klang der ungebrochenen Freiheit – Ein Abend über Vasyl Stus«

A literary and musical evening about the Ukrainian poet and dissident Vasyl Stus, whose work and fate are among the most impressive testimonies to spiritual independence in times of political repression.

The discussion between Maria Klassen (former employee of the Germanist, writer and human rights activist Lew Kopelew and his archivist) and Maria Birger (historian, member of the advisory board of the Lew Kopelew Forum) is dedicated to the life, poetry and significance of Vasyl Stus.

The poems of Vasyl Stus will be interpreted by two Ukrainian artists: the actress Maryna Bilova, who will read his texts in German and Ukrainian, and the jazz musician Kateryna Kravchenko, who will perform selected poems in her own musical version on the piano.

A joint event by the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Haus Foundation, the Lew Kopelew Forum and the Heinrich Böll Foundation as part of the exhibition on Vasyl Stus.

ACCOMPANYING PROGRAM

As part of the exhibition on Vasyl Stus and the "Ukraine is here" series of events, visitors can look forward to a varied accompanying program of concerts, performances and readings. In addition to the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Haus, other cultural venues in Düsseldorf will also be involved in the program.
