Literary Salon

belladonna has been hosting this open literary forum for women since November 1988, making it one of the oldest events of its kind in the state of Bremen. It would be nice if you had read the book, but this is not a prerequisite for participation. In addition to the book review, the discussion focuses on the topic of the respective book. The books can be borrowed from the belladonna library.

The novel describes the perspectives of three city dwellers. The focus is not only on the precarious working conditions of the main characters, but also on the care work performed by women. Elin is a successful influencer and is confronted with misogynistic hate online on a daily basis. Nuri has dropped out of school and tries to keep her head above water with various jobs. Ruth is in her late fifties and works as a nurse in a hospital. The lives of the three main characters change abruptly when these women lay down in silent protest outside the hospital on a Sunday. This is the beginning of a revolution in which women no longer do what they have always done.
