Frank Goosen - Lovely Rita
Three fates, one bar, one hundred stories
In Frank Goosen's new novel, we travel through the life stories of three unconventional women, always returning to the pub counter where their fates intersect. In his usual hilarious style, the author describes a slowly disappearing biotope and tells a great story full of warmth.
The legendary pub Haus Himmelreich, one of the last of its kind in the entire Ruhr region, is to close - what a shame! The narrator takes this as an opportunity to spend the final hours in the pub: During his research for an article, he encounters many quirky regulars who have a lot to tell.
But the true spirit of the pub is the landlady Rita Urbaniak, who doesn't appear in person throughout the evening and yet makes quite a name for herself: she has been running Haus Himmelreich since the 1970s, even though she actually wanted to do something completely different. She has also raised the daughter of her sister Chris, who left for the big wide world at some point. But where is Rita anyway? She can't miss the final!
Frank Goosen was born in Bochum in 1966. He studied history, German and politics at Ruhr University and formed the literary cabaret duo Tresenlesen with Jochen Malmsheimer from 1992, which temporarily disbanded in 2000 after almost a thousand performances, reunited in 2020 and has been performing live again since 2022.
