Literatur­tage Düssel­dorf: Preis­verleih­ung Düssel­dorfer Literatur­preis

For the 24th time, the Art and Culture Foundation of Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf is awarding the Düsseldorf Literature Prize, which is endowed with 20,000 euros. This year's winner is the Berlin-based author Monika Zeiner.

In her epic novel, which spans five generations, Zeiner has her hero Nikolas Finck, an outcast screenwriter from Berlin, travel to his grandfather Henry's 103rd birthday and then stay at his parents' house for months. As the black sheep of the family, he begins to uncover the myths of the proud business dynasty. In elegantly interwoven flashbacks, not only does Nikolas' torturous childhood appear, but also the phase of the company's foundation and expansion and the disruptions caused by the world wars.

Monika Zeiner, born in 1971, studied Romance languages and literature and theater studies in Berlin and Naples. She graduated from the Free University of Berlin in 2004 with a doctorate on the melancholy of love in the Middle Ages. She has written radio plays and theater texts and is the singer and lyricist of the Italo swing band Marinafon under the stage name Mona Stinelli. Monika Zeiner lives in Berlin with her two daughters and her partner.
