In the international garage rock scene, they are a hot insider tip, in Japan they are already stars and signed to a major label. Their energy has already put many an established American rock band in the shade. In black slim suits, they wear their hair in mop tops like the young Beatles.
THE 50 KAITENZ play 60s punk the way you want it, and with a perfection that makes you dizzy. The transitions from chorus to verse alone are so cleverly placed that you find yourself playing the obligatory air guitar and intoning the songs at the top of your voice without being able to speak a single word of Japanese. ザ50回転ズ don't play pure 60s punk, of course. Much like Turbonegro, they have devoured 70 years of rock'n'roll history and shamelessly used it for their own purposes. Whether punk, country, garage or beat - everything is scrutinized, distilled, stirred, shaken and stirred again to unleash itself in irreverent perfection in the ear canals. The result is arguably the most original music you've heard in this very crowded field in recent years.
In 2023, the Hamburg label Sounds of Subterrania released three of the band's albums on vinyl in Europe and is now finally bringing THE 50 KAITENZ on tour here in 2024. In 2026 they will be coming to Hansa48 for the second time!
