When the two New Wave musicians Bruno Kramm and Stefan Ackermann sent out their first religion-critical demo tapes at the end of the 1980s, they had no idea that the songs on them, such as "Gottes Tod" and "Des Satans neue Kleider", would herald the birth of a new genre, Neue Deutsche Todeskunst, and only a few months later serve as the anthem of a black scene in reunified Germany, the magic of which can still be felt today in the new millennium. Since the early works "Satanische Verse" and the album "Die Propheten", Das Ich have combined drama with music, expressionism with classical music and electronic with gothic to an unprecedented intensity in the music scene. They inspired countless bands and forms of expression across all genres. On extensive worldwide tours in Europe, the USA, South America, Asia, Israel and Russia, they not only represented the culture of a new, expressive Germany aware of its terrible past, but also helped to emancipate their mother tongue from Schlager, folk music and Krautrock. Between their albums "Staub", "Egodram", "Lava", "Antichrist" and "Cabaret", Stefan Ackermann and Bruno Kramm always allowed long periods of inspiration to pass in order to develop their own musical language for each epoch and turning point. Their controversial and intense live shows earned them a reputation across the boundaries of the scene that even today, more than 25 years after "God's Death", knows no comparison. Together with the metal band Atrocity, they broke through the almost impenetrable scene boundaries between metal and gothic at the time, wrapping the poet Gottfried Benn in a disturbing soundscape with their "Morgue" setting, which was premiered at the renowned Schauspielhaus Zurich in its time-critical performance. To this day, Everblacks such as "Kain und Abel", "Von der Armut" or the technoid VNV Nation remix version of "Destillat" are a constant companion at gothic parties around the world. From cosmic doubts, social decay and betrayal to self-created extinction - the first album after 15 years of "Fanal" spans the arc of a civilization that ignites its own beacon at every turning point. Each of the nine beacons warns of the cliffs we are heading for, but at the same time we are already in the process of being smashed against them. The beacon no longer burns as a warning, but as a testimony: this is the end of a species that elevated its own destruction to an art form. With Brutus, Das Ich release a second single and impressively demonstrate their condensed sound art of electronics and classicism in the self-created genre of New German Death Art.
