Color Dance - Music of Expressionism

The title of the concert evening "Color Dance" is inspired by a print of the same name by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner: three female figures, reduced to bright primary colors, dance in rhythmic movement - a symbol of energy, ambivalence and emotional intensity. This idea is also reflected in the musical program, which unites three different forms of expression of musical expressionism.

Alban Berg's Seven Early Songs combine late-romantic timbres with floating dissonance and create a space for longing, experiencing nature and quiet melancholy.

Erwin Schulhoff's first string quartet, on the other hand, is restless, rhythmically complex and infused with irony and gloom - a mirror of the fragmented world of the 1920s.

Béla Bartók's duos combine archaic folk music elements with artistic reduction - raw, direct, clear.

Like the art of Expressionism, this music is also directed inwards: It turns feelings outwards, seeking new forms of expression beyond convention - intense, contradictory, full of tension. The "Farbentanz" thus becomes a musical experience between light and dark, sound and silence.
