Lizzie Doron, one of Israel's most important peace activists, has spent her life fighting for peace with her Palestinian neighbors, for freedom and democracy.

Then came October 7 with the Hamas terror attack on Israel, followed by Israel's war in the Gaza Strip. Doron writes about the everyday life that no longer exists in her country, which has become alien to her: encounters with the bereaved, absurdly funny scenes with her grandchildren in the bomb shelter, stale memorial services, silence on the phone with her Palestinian friend.
Is there a future we can believe in? The moving testimony of a traumatized society.

Lizzie Doron became known for her novels about the second generation after the Shoah, such as Why Didn't You Come Before the War? (2004); in Who the Fuck Is Kafka (2015) she wrote about her friendship with a Palestinian filmmaker. She lives in Tel Aviv and Berlin.
