In the run-up to Christmas, Ireland is in the middle of the Ruhr region

With stories by Maeve Binchy, James Joyce, Anna McPartlin, John B. Keane and many more, and with Christmas songs from the Emerald Isle, Mareike Graepel and Christian Donovan put us in a wonderful Christmas mood.

The journalist, author and translator and mother of two Mareike Graepel lives mainly on Achill Island in Ireland and in Haltern am See. She has been writing for local, regional and national daily newspapers and magazines in both countries since her youth - first as a freelancer, then as an editor and since 2017 as a freelancer, including for DEINE KORRESPONDENTIN. Since the beginning of 2021, the declared enthusiast has also been reporting from Ireland for dpa. Her topics revolve around literature, equality, music, politics, the environment, family and health.

As a musician,Christian Donovan has dedicated himself entirely to Irish and Scottish songs and brings wonderful songs with him - from traditional pieces to all-time favorites such as "Fairytale of New York" by the Pogues or "Auld Lang Syne"... Singing along is definitely allowed, as is being contemplative. And when there are also Irish drinks and Christmas snacks, the evening becomes a perfect event for Ireland fans.
