Does Europe need its own army? In view of global crises, growing security policy challenges and a changing transatlantic partnership, the debate about a common European defense is coming into focus. Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann argues for a stronger European capacity to act. Bernd Grzeszick examines the constitutional requirements and hurdles of such a project. Together, they consider the possibilities of a common defense.

Dr. Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann has been a member of the FDP Federal Executive Committee since 2019 and Chair of the Security and Defence Committee in the European Parliament.

Prof. Dr. Bernd Grzeszick is Director of the Institute for Constitutional Law, Constitutional Theory and Philosophy of Law at Heidelberg University.
