Markus Lanz: Grönland – Meine Reisen ans Ende der Welt

He usually conducts interviews with people who have interesting stories to tell. But for over twenty years, the presenter himself has been repeatedly drawn to one of the most extreme places on earth as a photographer and adventurer: Greenland - a region that is currently also increasingly becoming the focus of political attention.

For Markus Lanz, Greenland is much more than just a travel destination. It is a place of borderline experiences, intensive observation of nature and encounters with a culture that exists under extreme conditions. "I always carry an incredible amount of stuff with me, including two cameras and more than half a dozen lenses. The telephoto lens alone weighs five kilos, and I've often asked myself why I'm actually doing this to myself. But then a polar bear suddenly appears in this almost unreal winter light - and the torture is forgotten," he says, describing his motivation.

His ZDF documentary "Sehnsucht Grönland" (2010) attracted almost four million viewers. In 2014, he published the bestselling illustrated book "Greenland - My Journeys to the End of the World" for National Geographic, based on around 20,000 photographs. The book paints an impressive portrait of the Arctic - its overwhelming beauty as well as its fragility - while also providing personal insights into the lives of the Inuit. Markus Lanz has also presented his experiences on stage in recent years.

In 2026, Greenland will be the focus of international attention more than ever. Climate change, raw material deposits and geopolitical interests are increasingly placing the world's largest island at the center of global discussions.

With the multivision show "Greenland - My Journeys to the End of the World", the audience can expect an impressive evening that is fascinating, moving and thought-provoking in equal measure. For the first time, Markus Lanz will be performing his elaborately produced multivision show live at the Elbphilharmonie. Large-format images of nature, moving encounters and personal insights give the audience an extraordinary perspective on a region between spectacular beauty and extreme living conditions - and on its growing global relevance.
