Matinee im Zeichen der Erinnerungskultur – „Die Kinder der toten Stadt“ im KAWAII Restaurant Paderborn

On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the KAWAII Restaurant at Modehaus Klingenthal invites you to a special cultural matinee from 15:00 to 18:00 in the spirit of remembrance culture. The occasion is the upcoming anniversary of the pogrom night of November 9, 1938.

In cooperation with the Gymnasium Theodorianum Paderborn, the German Institute for Remembrance Culture and the cultural association TONIKA e. V., guests can expect an impressive afternoon of music, lectures and remembrance. Part of the choir ensemble from the Theodorianum performance of the musical drama "Die Kinder der toten Stadt" will present selected songs from the work live under the direction of Imke Röder and with piano accompaniment by composer Lars Hesse. Xenia Nickel, Chairwoman of the Jewish Community of Paderborn, who will also be representing the Paderborn district on this afternoon, will give the welcoming address and open the event.

The focus of the event will be a lecture by Dr. Sarah Kass, initiator of the project and director of the German Institute for Remembrance Culture. She will shed light on the historical background to the play and talk about the value and responsibility of a living culture of remembrance - accompanied by film testimonies from contemporary witnesses.

The musical drama "The Children of the Dead City" - a "musical drama against forgetting" - is set in the Theresienstadt ghetto and combines artistic expressiveness with historical awareness. The work was performed with great success at the Theodorianum in 2025 and focuses on the lives of Jewish children under National Socialism.

With this matinee, the KAWAII Restaurant in Modehaus Klingenthal aims to create a space for remembrance, art and encounters. Free admission, donations are welcome.
