based on the novel by Bettina Flitner
Stage adaptation by Bettina Engelhardt and Margrit Sengebusch
When photographer Bettina Flitner learned of her sister's suicide a few years ago, her first reactions were shock, paralysis and despair. But then she decided to tell the story. The result is a deeply moving text. The story of an intimate sibling relationship is told with dedication, humor and sadness: a childhood in the 1970s, memories of charismatic grandparents, a year in New York, vacations in Capri, the first love adventures. And then the cracks: the parents' quarrels, their sexual libertinage, the mother's depression, the unfulfillable career expectations. Bettina Engelhardt stages the autobiographical novel with drama and puppetry and builds a bridge between the present and memory, between life and death, between family happiness and its fragility.
Co-production with Theater und Philharmonie Essen.
