Mendelssohn und Tschaikowsky mit Tugan Sokhiev

For his sister Fanny's 18th birthday, the 14-year-old Felix composed a concerto for two pianos, which the siblings immediately performed at one of the Sunday concerts at the Mendelssohn home. You can hear in the music how close the bond between Felix and Fanny was - a deep sibling love that is evident both in playful ease and in a special intimacy. In this respect, the double concerto is almost tailor-made for the Dutch pianist brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen. Peter Tchaikovsky revealed not his love but his innermost feelings in his Fourth Symphony - a work that served him as a refuge in difficult times. Despite the adverse circumstances, the "Fourth" became one of his most popular symphonies. With this passionate program, the orchestra welcomes conductor Tugan Sokhiev back to the podium.
