Metromara

The sound of "Metromara" is multifaceted: grooves between nonchalant soul beats and jazzy playfulness, between smooth basslines and twisted sound stories are just as much a part of it as exciting melodies that wind into each other without losing their threads. Singer Mara Minjoli performs her own compositions with sensitivity and powerful elegance, inspired by artists such as Charles Mingus, Carmen McRae and Stevie Wonder. Together with her band, she creates music that is equally rooted in jazz traditions and modern R'n'B echoes - and thus always keeps its finger on the pulse of the times.

Whether avant-garde or with soulful warmth: Mara Minjoli impresses with her versatility, expressiveness and sophisticated technique. After studying jazz singing at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, where she won the Folkwang Jazz Prize in 2010, her path led her to Amsterdam, where she founded the band "Metromara". In addition to Metromara, the singer is active in numerous projects: she released her debut album "Pictures" with the Mara Minjoli Quintet in 2014, followed by the album "Afro Sambas" with João Luís Nogueira in 2019. With the "Gospelprojekt Ruhr" and the "Gospelkollektiv", founded in 2022, she played a decisive role in shaping the choir scene in the Ruhr region. Her first children's album Kleine Fische was also released in 2025.
