As if by a miracle, piano student Laura survives a serious car accident on a trip to the Berlin countryside. Physically unharmed, but internally thrown off course, she finds shelter in the house of Betty, who witnessed the accident. From the very first moment, the two women share a deep affection for each other. Laura enjoys Betty's motherly care, the work in the garden, the visits to the workshop of Betty's husband Richard and their son Max, the meals they have together. An almost carefree, happy time together begins, a late summer dream to which Laura and the family are only too happy to surrender. But there is something wrong, a deep, dark pain that connects all four of them and yet remains unspoken. Laura senses that they must awaken from this dream in order to be able to live and love again.

Background:

Miroirs - Mirror Images is the name of a piano cycle by Maurice Ravel. The third piece, Une barque sur l'océan, sets the tone for Christian Petzold's new film: a touching, intimate tale about the fragility of life - about loss, pain, love and the power to escape despair by dreaming of a different life.
Miroirs No. 3 is a quiet, comforting film, masterfully directed with subtle shifts in perspective, carried by Hans Fromm's warm late summer camera and the impressive performances of Paula Beer, Barbara Auer, Matthias Brandt and Enno Trebs.
