A late summer dream.
A young woman plays the piano for a family. Mother and father sit on the sofa, their son stands in the doorway. The mother's longing gaze out of the window and the tear-filled eyes of the two men communicate an unresolved grief. Chopin underscores the emotional mood that can be seen on the faces of the figures. Laura is among them, playing the piano. Her gaze is fixed insistently on the score, accompanied by a gentle smile. Sunlight shines through the window into the room, illuminating this sad yet conciliatory scene.
The piano piece "Une barque sur l'océan" by Maurice Ravel hides behind the title of the film MIROIRS NO. 3. The barque stands for salvation from the shallows of the sea, it forms the metaphorical framework of the narrated story.
As if by a miracle, piano student Laura survives a serious car accident during a trip to the Berlin countryside. Physically unharmed but inwardly thrown off course, she finds shelter in the house of Betty, who witnessed the accident. From the very first moment, the two women share a deep affection for each other. Laura enjoys Betty's motherly care, the work in the garden, the visits to the workshop of Betty's husband Richard and their son Max, the meals together. An almost carefree, happy time of togetherness begins, to which Laura and the family are only too happy to surrender. But there is something wrong - a deep, dark pain that connects all four of them and yet remains unspoken. Laura senses that she must awaken from this dream in order to be able to live and love again.
