In 1996, the Argentinian composer Martin Palmeri masterfully set a classical mass in tango style to music with his Misa a Buenos Aires.

The Tango Argentino (here in further development to Tango Nuevo) is presented by Christian Gerber on the bandoneon, the Grand Art String Quintet and piano. Together with the award-winning mezzo-soprano Merit Nath-Göbl and the choir of the Kantorei, the performance offers rousing rhythms, sound and melody - a gripping rendition of the Latin mass text.

Martin Palmeri skillfully mixes church music traditions such as the fugues in the Kyrie movement with the rhythms of Argentinian tango.

"It is an experiment to mix these two different worlds, choral music and tango music," says Palmeri.
