Our society is under pressure: crises, social inequality and a noticeable loss of trust characterize the way we live together. In his book "Misstrauensgemeinschaften" (Kiepenheuer & Witsch), sociologist and migration expert Aladin El-Mafaalani describes how control logics, polarization and political overload are creating social structures of mistrust that are incapable of action - with consequences for democracy, cohesion and public debate.

At the same time, "Kinder - Minderheit ohne Schutz" (Kiepenheuer & Witsch) focuses on a central, often overlooked dimension of this development: young people growing up in precisely these structures. El-Mafaalani shows how early experiences of inequality, institutional overload and a lack of reliability not only shape individual biographies, but also undermine trust in the state, education and society in the long term.

The evening combines both analyses and asks how closely social loss of trust and growing up in precarious structures are linked - and what political and social consequences result from this.
