The world-famous writer Heinrich Heine continues to inspire not only numerous authors, but also visual artists who have explored his multifaceted life and work.

The Heinrich Heine Institute collects these works of art and is home to a multitude of treasures spanning three centuries, most of which are being presented to the public for the first time in this exhibition. From portraits and oil paintings to sculptures: rarely shown treasures and selected new additions to the museum collection are on display, shedding light on Heinrich Heine's person and his work from a new perspective. In the spirit of Heine's claim: "A work of art must carry its interpretation within itself".
