What does "madness" mean in times when extremes dominate, the boundaries of what can be said are shifting and democratic values are eroding? Mithu Sanyal and Michel Friedman address these questions in a dialog about the tectonic shifts of our present: the global shift to the right, the tensions between democracy and authoritarian temptations - and the question of how we as a society can react to them.
But "madness" also means searching for counter-forces: for love, solidarity and empathy - in order to make the human visible in the abysmal and to understand resistance as a necessity.
In conversation with Stephan Muschick, the evening becomes an open exchange of ideas: How can attitude, commitment and intellectual clarity be combined? What responsibility is needed to keep a democratic culture alive?
