Mothers - A Song For Wartime von Marta Górnicka

They are survivors. They are refugees from war and persecution, witnesses of violence and bombings. Women from Ukraine and Belarus who now live in Poland and want to stand and speak together on stage. They use the power of their voices to name what there are no words for. They do not want to be heard as victims, but as protagonists of their stories. Following an acclaimed and harrowing preview at the Festival d'Avignon and its world premiere in Warsaw, Marta Górnicka's choral theater piece Mothers - A Song for Wartime is now coming to Hamburg. The award-winning director, who has already staged several productions at the Gorki Theater in Berlin (including Grundgesetz and Still Life), is the founder of the Political Voice Institute. She brings together mothers from different generations and worlds of experience. Based on traditional Ukrainian ritual singing, they search for a new choral voice. Their singing becomes an accusation, a plea and a warning to us and all people in Europe.
