Mozart Requiem, Domkantorei Altenberg

The Altenberg Cathedral Choir invites you to a special concert in Altenberg Cathedral on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 7:30 pm. The program includes three works with special expressiveness:

W. A. Mozart - Requiem in D minor (KV 626). Mozart's unfinished Requiem is one of the most impressive compositions of the classical period. At its heart is the four-part choral movement, which tells of light and darkness, hope and transience in a moving way. With its intense expressiveness, the work still has an immediate and fascinating effect today. In this concert, the Requiem will be performed in the version completed by Franz Xaver Süßmayr, which is still the best-known and most frequently performed version of the work.

Sigismund von Neukomm - Libera me, Domine. Thirty years after Mozart's death, Sigismund von Neukomm added his composition "Libera me, Domine" to the Requiem in order to give the work a complete liturgical and musical conclusion. Neukomm's addition fits harmoniously into Mozart's creation and at the same time opens up new, haunting tonal colors that deepen the effect of the Requiem.

W. A. Mozart: Symphony No. 40 in G minor. The evening opens with Mozart's Symphony No. 40 - a work of passionate drama and lyrical beauty that leads the audience into the mood of the evening.
