Münter & Kandinsky

In the organizer's words:

They were one of the most famous artist couples of the 20th century: Gabriele Münter and Wassily Kandinsky. Their works can be found in many museums around the world, their lives and their respective artistic credos have been and continue to be honored in many exhibitions and publications. During their lifetimes and up until the 1980s, attention tended to focus on the works of Wassily Kandinsky (1866 - 1944), who achieved world fame as an advocate of abstract art, and not only in the circle of the painters' group "Der Blaue Reiter". The work of Gabriele Münter (1877 - 1962), Kandinsky's pupil, long-time partner and ultimately self-confident painter, has long been regarded as an important testimony to the upheavals in early 20th century art. In his feature film, director Marcus O. Rosenmüller focuses on the complicated and, for Münter, increasingly hurtful relationship between the two personalities. Based on their extensive correspondence, he has created an atmospheric biopic that focuses on their difficult life as an artist couple in an era characterized by conventions.
