Murs (real name Nicholas Carter, March 16, 1978) is an American rapper from Los Angeles. His stage name stands for "Making the Universe Recognize and Submit" - a statement for his unmistakable attitude in hip-hop. His career began in the 90s with the underground group 3 Melancholy Gypsys, later becoming part of the legendary collective Living Legends. He has been releasing under the name Felt together with Slug (Atmosphere) since 2002. With solo albums such as Murs 3:16 (produced by 9th Wonder) and Murs for President (Warner Bros.), he focused on depth of content rather than gangster clichés - and was celebrated for his emotional honesty. In addition to numerous collaborations (including with Fashawn, The Grouch, Aesop Rock, Tech N9ne and ¡Mayday!), Murs has also experimented across genres, for example with the rock band The White Mandingos. From 2014 to 2019, he was signed to Strange Music, where he released Captain California and A Strange Journey Into the Unimaginable, among others. He crowned his long-standing collaboration with 9th Wonder with the album The Iliad Is Dead & The Odyssey Is Over (2019). In 2022, Murs announced his retirement from the music business - with a final album as a farewell gift to his fans.
