As part of the series "Dresden in conversation about freedom"
In cooperation with Aktion Zivilcourage e. V. and the Federal Agency for Civic Education
The war in Ukraine has brought the threat to freedom in Europe back into the public eye. Yet freedom was never really a given and had to be fought for by individuals, social movements, political actors and sometimes even armies.
How threatened is freedom today? Do current debates about defense budgets and the reintroduction of compulsory military service show that Western values and freedoms must once again be defended with weapons? How far would we personally go for this? What freedoms would we be prepared to fight - and even die - for?
Keynote speech: Dr. Susann Worschech, social scientist, European University Viadrina Frankfurt/Oder
