Sustainability market on Benqueplatz - focus on the heating transition

On Sunday, May 31, 2026, Benqueplatz in Schwachhausen will become a meeting place for anyone who wants to find out about sustainable living, energy and climate protection. A sustainability market for Schwachhausen will take place there for the first time from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will focus on the heating transition - i.e. the question of how buildings can be heated in a climate-friendly and affordable way in the future.

A special feature of the market is the independent on-site advice. The consumer advice center Bremen, the climate protection agency Energiekonsens and the Bremer Aufbau-Bank will be present. They will provide neutral information on the possibilities of the heating transition, energy savings, funding programs and financing options.

The market is organized by Derik Eicke, SPD member of the Bremen City Parliament, in cooperation with the new board of Die Wachmannstrasse e.V.. Eicke is also the spokesperson for the Deputation for Environment, Climate and Agriculture of the Bremen Parliament and has been committed to bringing the topics of climate protection and the energy transition directly to the city districts for several years.

"The heating transition affects many homeowners in a very concrete way. Many are wondering which heating technology makes sense in the future and which solutions are suitable for their home. The sustainability market is intended to provide a simple opportunity to find out more and talk to experts," says Eicke.

In addition to independent advice, companies from Bremen will also be presenting their solutions for photovoltaics, heat pumps and energy-efficient building refurbishment. Among others, Adler Solar, 1Komma5° and the company Balkoniestrom will be there to show how balcony power plants can be an easy introduction to solar energy.

The Bremen Zero association is also represented at the sustainability market and will be providing information about the heat transition. There is also a small offer for children: they can color postcards of the "climate protection musicians" and take part in the climate game "The Mayor's Challenge".

The sustainability market is deliberately designed as an information market without a lecture program. The focus is on personal discussions, practical information and concrete solutions for the heat transition.

The market is a new event format in the district that combines information, advice and encounters relating to the heating transition.
Derik Eicke is an SPD member of the Bremen parliament and spokesman for the deputation for the environment, climate and agriculture. In his political work, he is particularly concerned with issues such as climate protection, the heating transition, agriculture and nature conservation. A particular concern of his is to bring these topics to the districts in an understandable way and to promote direct exchange between citizens, advisory institutions and companies.
