After the premiere, a major Hamburg daily newspaper described the St. Pauli Theater as currently staging the best musical in the city. The play is now in its fifteenth year and has lost none of its freshness.

The petrol station around the corner is the place where the night owls meet. And it is a special evening that brings together all kinds of people - in this case the punk, the unemployed sailor, the philosophy professor, the young rapper, the senior citizen who has run away from the Augustinum and the Polish geriatric nurse who is looking for her, the drunk from the Santa Claus agency, the prostitute, the investment banker and even a polar bear - in their dreariness: Christmas Eve. Time to stop and reflect on the year. Rarely are people so unprotected in their feelings as in these hours. The old rituals help to overcome some of the confusion.

Franz Wittenbrink is a multi-talented musician - he is a composer, conductor, arranger and director in equal measure. His productions, simply called "Liederabende", are causing a sensation. His recipe for success is, in his own words, very simple: "I try to tell stories that the audience follows more like a play, with the characters singing instead of talking to each other."

This classic, the definitive Christmas tale for adults, is now back and the legendary Kiez petrol station, which still has a large gaping hole in its place, is coming back to life - for a special evening that brings together a quirky mix of Christmas haters who all end up celebrating Christmas Eve together. The evening has been a cult event for over 15 years!
