Naoko Tanaka – Stadt(T)räume-Bilder-Schaukasten

In the organizer's words:

A bicycle. An animated movie. A touching moment on the street. In October, Naoko Tanaka's mobile film installation appeared at various locations in Düsseldorf as part of Nippon Performance Nights Vol. 11 - a silent intervention in public space, inspired by the Japanese art of Kamishibai storytelling. For her installation, the artist mounted all the technical elements required to play the film on a bicycle. An animated film specially developed for Düsseldorf was shown.

Now the bicycle is returning - this time to the interior. In Kreativraum D, the fleeting street performance is transformed into an exhibition: the original bicycle, filmic and photographic documentation of the nocturnal encounters and the hand-drawn original images from which the animated film was created are on display. The exhibition invites visitors to take a fresh look at the fleeting moments - from a distance, in the light, in dialog.

The exhibition space is also a place to come together: there is a bar and the artists' cooking collective Cook mal serves food that invites you to linger and share.
