Nautilus is a trio led by drummer Toshiyuki Sasaki, which was founded in 2014 together with bassist Shigeki Umezawa and keyboardist Daisuke Takeuchi. Their unmistakable style, which can be summarized as modern rare groove, combines elements of jazz, funk, disco, soul and even hip-hop.

The concept of Nautilus is not only inspired by the composition "Nautilus" by Bob James, but also by an actually existing American submarine of the same name. This reflects their contemporary sound, which continues the rare-groove music of the 1970s in a profound, almost abyssal sound aesthetic.

They released five albums and seven 7-inch vinyls in Japan and Germany.

In 2020, Daisuke Takeuchi left the band and Mariko Nakabayashi joined as a new member.
