Nduduzo Makhathini is a pianist, composer and musicologist at the School of the Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where he also completed his doctorate.
The multi-award-winning and internationally acclaimed artist hails from Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal. As a bandleader, Makhathini has already released twelve albums and contributed to numerous other productions as a sideman and producer. He is currently under contract with the renowned label Blue Note Records (USA) and is firmly anchored in the international jazz scene with his intensive touring schedule.
He has worked with such greats as Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Richard Bona, Hamilton de Holanda, the late Zim Ngqawana, Omagugu, Shabaka Hutchings, Black Coffee, Thandiswa Mazwai, Mbuso Khoza and most recently the WDR Big Band - to name just a few of his outstanding musical companions.
